Kapok or its scientific name (Ceiba pentandra) is a plant that belongs to the Malvaceae family. This plant usually grows in coastal areas up to an altitude of 100-800 m above sea level. Kapok plants currently have endangered species status (threatened with extinction) because this plant in the forestry and plantation sectors has low economic value so it is ignored. Kapok plants have a fairly large woody stem up to 3 m in diameter, with a height that can reach 32 m with large cone - shaped thorns, compound leaves with green fingers. Usually the kapok fruit is used as filling for mattresses, pillows, mattresses, and the leaves can also be used as a traditional medicine to treat jaundice / liver, and asthma.
Kapuk randu atau nama ilmiahnya (Ceiba pentandra) merupakan tamanan yang masuk kedalam family Malvaceae. Tanaman ini biasanya tumbuh pada daerah pinggir pantai sampai ketinggian 100-800 m dpl. Tanaman kapuk saat ini sudah berstatus endangered species (terancam punah) karena tanaman ini di bidang kehutanan dan perkebunan memiliki nilai ekonomi rendah sehingga diabaikan.Tanaman kapuk randu memiliki batang berkayu yang cukup besar sampai diameter 3m, dengan tinggi bisa mencapai 32 m dengan duri besar berbentuk kerucut, daun majemuk menjari warna hijau. Biasanya bagian is buah kapuk digunakan sebagai isian kasur, bantal, matras, dan daunnya juga dapat dijadikan sebagai obat tradisional untuk mengobati sakit kuning/liver, dan asma.
